In Cancer

The Annual Report to the Nation on the Status of Cancer, 1975-2011, is an update of rates for new cases, deaths and trends for the most common cancers in the United States. Experts from the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR), American Cancer Society (ACS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and National Cancer Institute (NCI) jointly issue the Annual Report to the Nation. Key points include detailed information on the small decline in cancer mortality rates for men, women and children (about 1-2 percent); the increase in thyroid and kidney cancers among both men and women; the increase in mortality rates for liver cancer; the increase in uterine cancer and mortality rates, with the largest increase seen in black women; and the increase in oral/oropharyngeal cancers overall among white men.
