In December 2009, Michael Garcia filed a class action lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Central District of California. Garcia, who was incarcerated at the Los Angeles County Jail, claimed in the lawsuit that he did not receive the special education and related services he was entitled to while he was there. The County of Los Angeles denies these allegations and disputes that it has committed any wrongdoing.

If you are or were eligible for special education and related services while detained in any Los Angeles County Jail (“LACJ”) facility and are currently detained at any LACJ facility or if you believe you may be detained at any LACJ facility in the future, you may be a member of the proposed settlement class affected by this lawsuit. Please read the Notice of Proposed Class Action Settlement linked below for information about the proposed settlement and Class Members’ rights.
