Dr. June M. McKoy is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Preventive Medicine at Northwestern University (NU) Feinberg School of Medicine, an academic geriatrician on the staff of Northwestern Memorial Hospital, a licensed Illinois Attorney with focus on health law, elder law, and international human rights law, and a NIH-funded clinical cancer/health services researcher. She is committed to utilizing and interweaving research into daily practice in order to ensure better health for aging individuals living with cancer. Dr. McKoy is a strong proponent of holistic healthy aging, believing that to age well one must balance mind, body, and spirit. A member of the Survivorship Institute of NU’s Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center in Chicago, she co-founded the Senior Oncology Outcomes Advocacy and Research (SOAR) program that translates research on cancer health measures into advocacy based interventions to improve health-related quality of life and survivorship for older individuals. She is the Co-Lead for the Community Engagement Core of Chicago Cancer Health Equity Collaborative (Chicago-CHEC), a National Cancer Institute (NCI) funded research initiative aimed at advancing health equity through meaningful scientific discovery, education, training, and community engagement. Dr. McKoy has been featured in multiple print and electronic media, including (but not limited to) the New York Times, the Chicago Tribune, Talking Points Memo, The Guardian, The Root, NBC Evening News, and Public Television-WTTW. She is the Director of the Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Program at NU, President of the Medical Faculty Council, a NU Public Voices Thought Leadership Fellow (2014), and a NU Change-Makers Faculty. An appointed member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network’s (NCCN) Senior Adult Oncology Panel, she works collaboratively with faculty from US-based comprehensive cancer centers to develop treatment guidelines for older individuals with cancer. Dr. McKoy remains a member of the Cancer and Aging Research Group (CARG) housed at City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center, and advocates on behalf of patients living with cancer through her appointed membership on the NCl’s National Council of Research Advocates (NCRA). An author of multiple peer-reviewed scientific papers and book chapters, she recently edited a cancer policy and pharmaceutical safety textbook. In 2018 she was named to the Editorial Board of the Journal of Geriatric Oncology (JGO).
